Description
When Spiegelau, the German glassmaker founded in 1521, set out to design a glass for IPA, it worked with two of the American breweries that defined the style, Sierra Nevada and Dogfish Head. The result looks like nothing else on a bar: a thin, tapering bowl that narrows toward the rim, sitting on a ridged, stacked base.
The bowl is the important part. It traps the volatile hop aromas, citrus, pine and tropical fruit, and channels them to your nose. The ridged base is said to churn the beer slightly each time you tilt the glass, releasing a fresh burst of aroma and keeping the head going. Treat that as the maker’s claim; the bowl works either way.
Lead-free crystal glass, 54cl, dishwasher safe, sold as a single glass. Pour an IPA hard enough to raise a good head.
