Description
Spitfire is an amber ale from Shepherd Neame in Faversham, Kent, which bills itself as Britain’s oldest brewer. The beer was first brewed for the fiftieth anniversary of the Battle of Britain, which explains the aircraft on the glass.
The glass is a tall, gently tapered English pint with a slight shoulder near the top for grip. It is not a tasting glass, and that is fine: an English bitter or amber ale is a session beer, low in carbonation and meant to be drunk steadily, and a full pint glass is how it is served in every pub in the country.
Importantly, this is a genuine imperial pint, 56.8cl, with the measure marked on the back. That is more than the 50cl “pints” most European bars pour. Sold as a single glass.
