Description
When Spiegelau, the German glassmaker founded in 1521, set out to design a glass for barrel-aged beer, it spent two years in tasting workshops with brewmasters from Great Divide, Green Flash, Uinta and Cigar City. What came out is essentially a modern beer snifter: a round, generous bowl that narrows toward the rim, on a short stem.
The shape suits beers that have spent months in bourbon, wine or rum barrels. The wide bowl gives you room to swirl and lets a 12% imperial stout open up as it warms; the narrowing rim gathers the vanilla, oak, dark fruit and spirit notes and keeps them under your nose. Pour small and take your time.
Lead-free crystal, about 48cl, dishwasher safe. The retailer only sells it as a set of two, which is why it is priced for the pair.
