Description
Brasserie d’Achouffe, in the hills of the Belgian Ardennes, is known as much for its red-hatted gnome as for its beer. Its house glass is a compact tulip on a short stem: the bowl swells, pulls in, then flares gently at the lip to hold a big, lively head.
It is meant for the whole range. La Chouffe, the hazy, spicy blond that made the brewery’s name, and Mc Chouffe, the darker Scotch-style ale, both get it. So does Houblon Chouffe, one of the first Belgian takes on IPA: a Belgian tripel yeast with a heavy dose of hops. A tulip suits that hybrid well, gathering the hop aroma and the yeast’s fruity, peppery esters in the same headspace.
33cl, sold as a single glass. Wash brewery-printed glasses by hand to keep the print sharp.
